An uppercut is a punch that travels from below the target, aiming to hit the bag in an upward direction. When done right, it's a powerful punch that can really turn up the intensity in your workout.

What Is An Uppercut?

As with all punches, you want your knuckles making contact with the center of the bag. We are not going for big, flashy, out-of-control uppercuts. We are aiming for control and precision.

Power From Legs And Core

When you throw an uppercut, it's not just your arm moving. Your power comes from your legs and core.

  • Push up from the ground.
  • Rotate your body slightly as you drive your fist upward.
  • Let your whole body work, not just your arms.

Distance And Foot Position

For uppercuts, you'll need to be close enough that you can punch upward without overreaching. Stand in your normal boxing stance with your feet diagonally apart for balance and stability.

Start With Light Contact

  1. Get into position.
  2. Gently touch the center of the bag with small uppercuts.
  3. Focus on the motion and rhythm, not power.

Don't get frustrated if you miss at first. Just keep touching the bag, and the timing will come.

Once you have the rhythm, add a little more drive from your legs, rotate your body, and let the power travel from the ground through your core into your punch.
